How To Play Texas HoldEm Poker

The beginning

The name of the game itself is pretty weird to be but I find it shocking to find out that this game is the most popular of all poker variations. Don’t let the name deceived you. So, as always, there are rules for this game. To begin with, when you’re playing Texas HoldEm, every player is dealt with 2 cards faced down – they are called your ‘hole cards’. After that, there is a round of betting where you can Check, Bet or Fold. The stage of this game is known as pre-flop and you should do is be dependent on those ‘hole cards’.  When all of the bet is done and all three cards are dealt are face up in the middle of the table. This is called the flop.

After the first round, there will be a second round of betting, then a fourth shared card – called the turn – is dealt.

Then there is another round of betting then a final shared card – called the river – and finally the last round of betting.

Your best hands will be made by using your hole cards and then the five cards in the middle in order to make the best possible five card poker hand.

Okay, so for example, if you have a 9-9 and the shared cards are 9-9-A-5-2, that means you have four-of-a-kind. Furthermore, if the shared cards are J-Q-K-7-2, which means you’d only have two nines.

End of the game

There are technically two ways a hand can end this game.

The first is when the players turn over all their hole cards and the player with the best hand will win the game. This is called the showdown.

Secondly, someone will bet enough that everyone else folds. Generally, this is how most hands will end in this game and technically that’s the beauty of the game – you don’t necessarily need a best hand to win.
